A recent community event brought together 56 enthusiastic kids and guardian from our school for a memorable night filled with baseball, reading, and fun. Thanks to the partnership between the Delmarva Shorebirds and Brace Place, children who participated in the "Hit the Books" literacy program earned two free tickets to a Shorebirds game. This initiative not only rewarded reading but also fostered a sense of team spirit and community pride. April 14th, 2026 launched our 2026 SCA HIT THE BOOKS GAME!

Encouraging Reading Through Rewards
The "Hit the Books" program was designed to motivate kids to read more by offering a tangible reward: free tickets to a Shorebirds game. Each child who met the reading goals received two tickets, encouraging families to attend together. This approach created excitement around literacy and showed students that reading can lead to fun experiences outside the classroom.
Our school proudly had 56 kids participate, showing strong engagement with the program. Teachers and parents noticed increased enthusiasm for reading, with many students eager to share the books they enjoyed. The program helped build a positive connection between learning and leisure, making reading feel like a team effort.
Building School Spirit at the Game
The Shorebirds game night was more than just a baseball match. It became a celebration of teamwork and community. This event helped strengthen friendships and created lasting memories tied to their reading achievements!
The Delmarva Shorebirds and Brace Place deserve special thanks for organizing this event. Their support made it possible for so many children to enjoy a night out that combined education and entertainment. The collaboration highlights how community organizations can work together to support youth development!
